Freedom Walk, Day 3 in Philly

During lunch break, I dashed to the Declaration House where Thomas Jefferson rented rooms during the forming of the Revolutionary government. Here, supposedly on this table, he wrote the Declaration of Independence. HOWEVER, the house is a replica of the original and the furniture is from the family that rented the house to Jefferson, so no one knows for sure...how disappointing!!

The Quote for today is: ...cannot protect liberty by getting rid of liberty.. probably spoken by Madison in response to Hamilton.

Inside the Free Quaker Meeting House. They were called "Free" because they separated from the original Quakers because the Free Quakers supported the American Revolution and the use of violence if necessary. I made a friend:) This guy was great, he told us A LOT about the Free Quakers.

Benjamin Franklin's grave in the Old Christ Church cemetery. People throw pennies on it for good luck, based on his witticisms in Poor Richard's Almanac.

Then we walked to......

The Betsy Ross House was pretty cool. Saw her grave--she is buried on site with her last (3rd) husband. Much of the house is restored. Philadelphia has actually not been very good about preserving historical places.

Me at the Betsy Ross House.

Next stop was Old Christ Church where George Washington attended services.

The inside and outside of Christ Church. Several signers of the Declaration and Constitution are buried here and William Penn's family, Betsy Ross, and George Washington have pews inside.

I am sitting in the Washington family's pew.

This is the library that Benjamin Franklin started--the Philosphical Society--really cool.
