Last Day in Philly--Flying High Now

The Last Day in Philadelphia

A rather blurry picture of Dr. David Hackett Fischer, our guest lecturer today. He spoke on the meanings of freedom and the different types of American soldiers and the crossing of the Delaware as a pivotal point in the Revolution. I have TWO quotes today, both from him.....

'Freedom means to be attached to other free people'

'The only commandment the Puritans consistently obeyed was to increase and multiply'

Me and Rocky!!!!

Philadelphia from the top of the steps of the Philadelphia Art Museum.

The Todd House, which was the home of Dolly Payne Todd Madison. It was her 1st husband's home, he died of yellow fever, and she inherited the home. Eventually she married James Madison and during the War of 1812, saved the Gilbert Stuart portrait of George Washington, which we will see in DC.

The outside and inside insignia over the fireplace of Carpenter's Hall. Inside, there are chairs that were used at the Constitutional Convention.

Carpenter's Hall was used by the 1st Continental Congress as a meeting place for a year and remains an active building used by the Carpenter's Guild in Philadelphia.

We leave tomorrow (Friday) for Gettysburg--prepare to be sad--after we tour Independence Hall in the morning. Philadelphia has been wonderful and not nearly enough time was spent here!!
