Let Freedom Ring--day 4 in Philly

Today our discussions focused around the Bill of Rights and debates between Madison and Hamilton and Sherman. Quote for the day: "What do I care about scruples when the future of the Republic is at stake." Edmund Randolph of Virginia to Lansing when Lansing criticized Randolph by saying that the Annapolis Convention was taking too much on themselves and violating the Articles of the Confederation by writing a new constitution.

A new day to see new things...
First, Franklin Court

Plaques like this are placed all over Franklin Court to indicate where parts of Franklin's house was. The hooded contraptions are where you can lean in and look at the archeological remains of Franklin's home.

The outline of Franklin's house. The family pulled down his house in 1812 and built apartments. When these were pulled down and excavation began, some remnants and archeological remains were found.

Some of the characteristics of Franklin's Court, where Ben Franklin and his family built their home and lived.

The Liberty Bell!!!! Freedom's Bell!! I was just amazed and enthralled by this bell and the history it represents. This is one of the things that symbolizes for me Philadelphia and the struggle for liberty.

On to the next site...

The 2nd National Bank, now the Portrait Gallery.

Inside the 2nd National Bank, which now houses the Portrait Gallery of the Signers of the Declaration, Founding Fathers, and other famous colonials. Many paintings were by Peale and have been duplicated in history books many times.

Dinner tonight was at Jim's--a highly recommended place for legit philly cheesesteaks. It was amazing--we stood in line for a while, but had plenty of places to sit. It was reasonably priced and clean. There were lots of autographs on the walls of famous people and you can watch the cooks make your steak to order. It is on 4th and South, about 8 blocks from our hotel, an easy walk
there and a necessary walk back!

And...........here it is..............

This was an amazing Philly Cheesesteak!!!!! Kevin Stanton was correct--the best! A group of us came and my cheesesteak had: cheese whiz, provolone, lettuce, tomatoe, onions, mushrooms, and of course, steak!! And yes, I ate all of it:) Seriously doing some walking tomorrow. A great end to a great day--
